The Comic Book
WEEK2
we are currently read some comics from newspaper comics era.
I read Winsor McCay's Little Memo.
I really appreciate McCay's talents that his unusual and particularly good Lens language. The story occurs as little memo sleeping. And the way he showing dream and reality interspersed is very clever. For example, the first flame memo lie on the bed, and his mom yelling him to go to sleep immediately, and then his mom walks away. Up to this point, there's a projection of people's subconscious, memo is on awake, because writer gives a strongly hint that Memo is in a dialogue with his mom. However the next moment, a monster comes to his bed take him to a absurd adventure. This is no real obviously that people can tell through comics. McCay distinct and represents dream and reality very well, and his knows that how to show the process of entering from reality to dream. And I also like his Lens Language, watching his comics is like watching a movie, his changes his Lens angle very frequently. Every page can be a flame, and he is very good at describe the sense. He always utilizes front ground view or zoom out the sense to show some emotional.
