Week 9: A Wide World of Comics

We watched the The Triplets of Belleville (2003) dir. Sylvain Chomet in class.

When I am in primary school, I watched this animation, the first time. I still watch this animation until now, until I am a college school student. A grandson who has autism and his grandmother are sticking out together. Grandma's love is about to spill over, you can see her love fulls into the whole house. The walls are covered with grandson's medals, photos. There is his bike at home, and the music he likes. And then they meet the triplets who are old but grace, beautiful and full of youth.

And I almost cry at the last frame.
The Beginning:
His grandmother ask:
 Is the show over?
Don't you want to tell grandma something?
Is it the end?

The End:
                                                     He said:
                                        Yes, is the end, grandma.
He come over! He is not autist anymore, because of his grandma's soft, sweet love around him to grow up.

The Art Style

This French animation is so unique. The watercolor and ink delicate background, Exaggerated perspective. The camera gave some long shot to introduce Belleville, moving slowly to show this high drawing skill's background, so impressive.

And the character design interesting, saturated and highly representative.
