The Arrival By Shaun Tan
The Arrival By Shaun Tan
Shaun Tan showcases a beautiful and imaginative story and it is a nonverbal story. The story tells a man had to work away from home and his family. In the strange city, he met lots of different types people, those people told him the reasons why they were coming to the city. In the end, he stays with his family in this city.
The art of this comic is so exquisite and delicate. Even without words, the audiences still can resonate with the author through the pictures. The most impresses me deeply is the page of cloud. Shaun Tan draw a page of different cloud, they are beautiful, grace and cute. I can understand the mood when Shaun Tan saw those cloud. He enjoyed this beauty of the scene. The whole cartoon is like a work of art.
The Arrival is a nonverbal story, Shaun Tan used a great deal of space to give hinting to people. So that people can understand the story so well. The audiences know the man was missing his family when he just got new city, because Shaun showed a photo that the man put on the wall, his family, the camera shots his wife first and then shots his little daughter. And then the camera turns to him and look at the picture. The audiences realize, oh, he is missing his family.
I really like this comic and I wish I can collect this beautiful comic.
